The e-tron trap: why the e-tron GT takes different parts
Audi sells several unrelated cars with e-tron in the name. The GT shares its platform with a Porsche, not with the e-tron SUV, and the part numbers prove it.
"e-tron" is a badge, not a platform, and that causes more misordering than almost anything else in the current range.
Three different cars, three different platforms
- e-tron / Q8 e-tron — the large SUV. Part numbers commonly start
4KE. - e-tron GT — the low four-door. Part numbers commonly start
9J1. - Q4 e-tron — the compact SUV, built on VW Group's MEB platform. Numbers commonly start
1EA.
These are not variations on a theme. The e-tron GT is built on the J1 platform, which it shares with the Porsche Taycan — not with the e-tron SUV that shares its name. Parts cross between the GT and the Taycan far more readily than between the GT and the e-tron.
The Q4 e-tron is on MEB, the same architecture underneath a range of Volkswagen Group electric cars, and shares very little with either of the others.
What this looks like in practice
A radiator for the e-tron SUV is a 4KE part — for instance the 4KE 121 251 B, which fits e-tron, Q8 e-tron and SQ8 e-tron. It does not fit an e-tron GT.
The GT's cooling and braking parts carry 9J1 numbers. Its front brake disc and rear brake disc are both 9J1 parts, shared with the Taycan.
Order a 4KE radiator for a GT and you will get a part that is genuinely for an Audi with "e-tron" on the boot, and genuinely will not fit your car.
Why listings get this wrong
Search engines and parts catalogues match on text. "Audi e-tron radiator" matches all three cars, and many retailers do not disambiguate in the title. We have seen the SUV radiator listed as an e-tron GT part on more than one site.
If you drive an e-tron GT, treat "e-tron" results as a red flag rather than a match. Check the prefix.9J1is your car;4KEis not.
The ceramic caveat on GT brakes
The GT was offered with both iron and ceramic front discs, and the price difference is enormous — our 9J1 615 302 D is a ceramic front disc and lists at several times the iron equivalent.
This is worth checking against your VIN before ordering. The two are not interchangeable: carriers, pads and hub geometry all differ.
